Playdate, Craft Fairs and MORE SEWING!

Busy Busy Busy! This past week seems to have FLOWN by! In a good way though:) On Friday Amanda invited us over for a little play time and some DELICIOUS chicken salad sandwiches for the mommies! It was such a treat to be able to visit while the girls played! Staying at home can be a little lonely at times!
On Saturday two couples from our Sunday school class came over first thing in the morning... the guys came to help Travis re-do our front porch! What a blessing! I promise I'll post pics here in a day or two... I keep forgetting to take them! While the guys worked the moms and kiddos headed down-town for an annual craft-fair that takes place. I shocked myself and the only thing I ended up buying was a snow-cone for Emma:)
On Sunday we went to church and then out for lunch! After lunch we headed home for a quick nap. Our Sunday School has divided everyone up into "Care Groups" which consist of about 5 families. Your Care Group then meets once a month or so outside of class. Soo.... our Care Group had an ice-cream social which was very delicious:) After a couple of hours of visiting and icecream we headed over to Trav's grandmother's house to visit for an hour. THEN it was back home for supper and bedtime! I don't think I've ever been more ready for a slow Monday to roll around!!! :)
Emma had her 15 month check-up yesterday. She did SUCH a good job with her shots! She got 3 and only cried while they were sticking her! I think it helped that they gave her sheets and sheets of princess stickers :) :) :) She weighs 23lbs (75th percentile) and is 33 1/2 inches (WAYYYY off the charts!). The dr. laughed and said that she was even more off the charts for heighth than she's ever been:) I'm so thankful she's such a healthy girl!
I've posted a few pics from some of the sewing I've done this week. One of my friends (who's also our neighbor!) asked me to make a few things for a baby shower she's attending this week. So that's what all of the girlie onesies and burp-rags are for! And the two zebra shirts are for the baby and her big sister. The last pic is of a dress I made for Emma last night... it's a tad on the short side (wonder why? :) ) so I'm going to make some little bloomers to match. Plus... every little southern girl should wear bloomers under her dresses...it's only appropriate! ;)
Alrighty... I think I'm all the way updated!!! Oh and Colt is doing well:) I promise I'll post a belly pic here in the near future! Happy Thursday everyone!

Nesting

I'm officially nesting:) With Emma I nested in the form of making bows... with Colt I'm nesting in the form of sewing! Below are pics of what I've worked on this past week. A blanket, burp-rags, 3 shirts (one of them for a friend of the family's little boy who just turned 2), a dress for Emma and a beach towel! My sewing list for this week includes curtains for the living room, curtains for the kiddos room, more burp rags and a beach bag for Emma!

Our weekend has been wonderful! All of Saturday and Sunday were spent pretty much just hanging out at the house. I've been quite a bit more tired lately so I spent most of today just resting... I love quiet Sunday's! Emma has been talking up a storm lately. Her new favorite word is "Burb" (for Bird). She has quite an eye for spotting them too! If she sees a bird anywhere...whether it be out the window or on a walk...she'll start pointing and saying "Burb! Burb!"
The rest of our week looks pretty uneventful which is just the way I like it! It leaves plenty of time to get my sewing in ;)

He is Risen!

We had a full weekend celebration of Easter this year! On Saturday we had an Easter sandwich lunch and Easter egg hunt with Trav's side of the family. I didn't think Emma would really get into the Easter egg hunt or her Easter basket but she definitely proved me wrong! She sat for quite awhile going through her basket and after all of the other kids had wandered off she stood up with her basket and started walking around collecting everyone else's shiny chocolate eggs for her own basket:) For the Easter egg hunt Travis was her team-mate... he would walk to an egg.. lower her to the ground and she would pick up the egg, put it in her basket and then they would be on their way to the next egg! After the hunt we went inside for the kids to open their eggs. Emma came away with lots of candy, a bracelet and $2! Her favorite treat was her $2... she would clutch a dollar in each hand and run around the room screaming and laughing! Then she laid down on the floor and kicked her feet and screamed happy screams all while clutching her money:)
On Easter Sunday we helped out in Emma's nursery class... it was a treat because the Cannaday's were in there with us! Then we went to the Easter service which was FABULOUS! The sang and played all of my favorite Easter hymns... love it! After church we met up with Trav's family for a light lunch. Then we celebrated again that evening with a big Easter meal. Pork tenderloin with honey/pineapple glaze, (it was SO GOOD! Trav's dad makes the best meat!), fresh green beans, mashed potatoes and bread. And for dessert we had chocolate cake which I made! I'll have to post the recipe for that here in the next day or two... it is seriously the best cake recipe I have EVER had! And it's super easy to make too!
It was a great weekend of celebration and rememberance of what the Lord has done for us! Have a great week everyone!

Easter morning:) This wasn't her original Easter dress. We tried on the original the day before Easter Sunday and poor little Emma couldn't go anywhere in it! It was a tad long and when she would try to crawl anywhere it would choke her!!! So... she'll wear her Easter dress in a few weeks when she's given up crawling completely and walks more!

Tonight after Emma's bath Travis let her wear her bunny towel around the living room... every time we would try to take it off she would throw a fit. So...we let her wear it for awhile... and little miss loved it:) Her walking has improved this past week... she's still pretty wobbly!

Palm Sunday

I don't think I can say it enough... but I LOVE SUNDAYS!!! :) I love everything about them! But I especially love Palm Sunday and Easter. Our church had their Easter musical this morning... it was absolutely fabulous! You know how there are "baby cry rooms" where the moms can sit and watch the service with their baby? Well... in my opinion they should have "pregnant hormonal woman cry room." I swear... I bit my tongue the entire program to keep from boohooing!!! :) Yes yes...I know that alot of it has to do with my crazy hormones... HOWEVER... I just get so overwhelmed with the goodness of my Lord! Today is such a day for celebration! Years and years ago the crowds of Jerusalem greeted him into the city waving palm branches and praising His name. In five days we will celebrate his death...and THEN we can celebrate on Easter his resurrection! This is a great week of rememberance! I've been thinking of Easter traditions that I want to start in my home with Emma and Colt... what are some of your Easter traditions? Trav and I have decided that as a family we choose to steer away from bunnies and eggs and focus on the real reason of Easter. One of the traditions that my mom started growing up is something called "Resurrection Rolls." Here's the idea and recipe behind them....

• 1 package Cresent rolls
• melted butter
• large marshmallows
• cinnamon
• sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Give each child a triangle of cresent rolls.
The cresent roll represents the cloth that Jesus was wrapped in.

Give each child a marshmallow.
This represents Jesus and His purity.

Have child dip the marshmallow in melted butter.
This represents the oils of embalming.

Dip the buttered marshmallow in the cinnamon and sugar.
This represents the spices used to annoint the body of Jesus.

Wrap the coated marshmallow tightly in the cresent roll
(not like a typical cresent roll up, but bring the sides up and seal the marshmallow inside)
This represents the wrapping of Jesus' body after death.

Place in a 350 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
The oven represents the tomb (pretend like it was 3 days and nights!)

When the rolls have cooled slightly, the children can open their rolls (cloths) and discover that Jesus is no longer there,

HE IS RISEN!

The marshmallow melts and the cresent roll is puffed up,
but like the tomb - IT IS EMPTY!
